BRAHU Benefits Of Membership

Professionalism:

By being a member of the Baton Rouge Association of Health Underwriters you are demonstrating that you support and are involved in the development of your career and the future of the industry. The many benefits of membership are really second to the pride and knowledge that you will exude by being a member of BRAHU. You aren't required to hold an office, you aren't required to join a committee, and you aren't required to attend the meetings. However, as in most things, the more you put in, the more you get out. We believe in the philosophy LEAD, FOLLOW OR DONATE and will gladly accept your energy, time or money!

Networking:

Of all the benefits that accrue to being a member of our Association, none is more important than the people that you will meet. Making friends with a wide variety of members will serve you well in your endeavor to become as professional as you can. Our industry has become very complex and to know every facet of it in detail has become an almost impossible task. Knowing people who specialize in various fields of our business broadens your scope by having access to their knowledge. Just another way to serve your clients better. They are just a phone call away. Get to know them! Other than the monthly luncheons, several after hours social events are planned to provide the opportunity for networking and relationship building.

Industry Knowledge:

A firm understanding of pending legislation and newly enacted laws is vital to an insurance agent. Being unaware of rules can leave you open to lawsuits and can ruin your reputation. BRAHU is your information source for new legislation. We have lobbyists at both the State and National levels and give you access not only to information but also to the lawmakers themselves. Other sources charge over a hundred dollars for this valuable information.

Continuing Education Sources:

At monthly meetings and local and national symposiums, Continuing Education Courses are provided to help you meet your CE requirements. Members receive this benefit FREE of charge.

Monthly Luncheon Speakers:

Our objective at our luncheons is to provide quality speakers speaking on pertinent industry topics. We know your time is valuable and we want your attendance at our luncheons to be worthwhile. Our meetings end promptly at 1:00 PM in order for you to plan your time accurately.

Website Access:

With membership in the association, you will have access to the National, State and Local websites. With that, you will have timely updates on pending legislation and other pertinent industry information. Members can access us on-line at www.la-ahu.org or www.nahu.org

EXPO Attendance:

The cost of attendance at the Baton Rouge Association and the Louisiana Association of Health Underwriters EXPO is less for members than non-members. At each of these EXPOs, CE on the latest industry topics is provided as well as the opportunity to explore the latest products being exhibited by over 30 booth sponsors. In addition, outstanding speakers present various subjects of current interest keeping you abreast of emerging trends within the industry.

E & O Coverage Availability:

As a result of your membership in the BRAHU, you are entitled to E & O Coverage with a 10% discount. The National Association of Health Underwriters sponsors the coverage. You can obtain coverage individually or for your entire agency. Seabury & Smith, one of the world's largest insurance brokers, administers the coverage. For more information call, 1-888-424-2310.

Access to Industry Awards and Educational Designations:

BRAHU is available to help you obtain educational designations. Several designations are available and we will coordinate study groups, assign a proctor and provide encouragement to assist in obtaining these designations. RHU & REBC Designations provide the health producer a means of obtaining expertise in the ever increasingly complex market of employee benefits and individual health product market. The American College administers these exams. The Leading Producers' Roundtable (LPRT) provides a medium for the health producer to receive recognition for his/her above average production. In any type of professional association, education is frequently cited as the primary reason for joining. BRAHU provides members with the highest quality educational opportunities at either a reduced fee or FREE of cost. You may contact your local Education Chair for information on how to obtain RHU and REBC designations in a classroom format. A newly formed designation developed in 2001 is the Certified Senior Specialist National Designation offered through The Center for Senior Studies.
